Valorization of citrus sinensis wastes for the production of orange essential oil: identification of chemical composition and antibacterial activity

The objective of this study was to extract, characterize, and examine the antibacterial properties orange essential oil obtained from citrus sinensis peels, using hydro-distillation method. Various components were characterized by FTIR, UV-Vis GC- MS spectroscopic techniques. extracted conformed AFNOR standards, had a maximum yield 3.4% (w/w). results showed that limonene major bioactive (97.14%). its dilutions in DMSO an excellent activity against Staphylococcus aureus (gram-positive bacteria) with diameter inhibition zone superior 40 mm. However, it ineffective Escherichia coli Pseudomonas aerogenes (gram negative bacteria).
